| Ten Principles Of Yang Family Tai Chi Source Yang Jun Speech 2008 Word in brackets are my take. Comments on Hand Kind of easy. Three different hand techniques. 1. Palm. 2.Hook 3. Fist We make Palm extend fingers slightly and bend slightly. Between fingers slightly spaced. Thumb more open. Tiger Mouth. Not too tight or limp.Later all uses of Palm same shape. Do striking, turn slightly to side (little finger towards opponent. Shuto.) Do Push more front (palms facing forward to opponent). Same palm shape in grabbing, Ward Up. Make a fist by closing finger gaps, bend four fingers in, thumb touching top two fingers. Full fist, not empty (no peanut) but not too tight. Front of fist flat enough (like a boxer). Front of fist is energy point, sometimes use back. Two points is where the energy point in fist. Sometimes we bend in (Fist Under Elbow) sometimes straight (Parry, Block and Punch). Sometimes Chop outside (The Block in Parry. Block and Punch. Uraken). Make a Hook. Wrist bend down, finger tips close together, Thumb to Middle finger and Index finger. Don't make small hook. Energy point is in back of palm (looks like Shoto-Uke but energy isn't in wrist). Normally a strike to the throat and middle body. (Remember everything is hidden. In application a grab is a grab, a pull may require you to grip your opponent. This isn't shown, but is known to you, the practitioner. The form is a crib, a tick list, a reminder..a secret kept from the casual observer. Like all Martial Arts the edge is lost if everybody can do it. But if you don't know what you are doing either you are kidding yourself.) Back to Ten Principles |
